GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) -- A former police officer in the South American country of Guyana has been charged in the fatal shooting of an elderly woman.
Authorities say Antonio Singh Balrup was one of three suspects involved in the March 7 killing of Patricia Samaroo in a rural community southeast of Guyana's capital. Also shot was Samaroo's sister, who was scheduled to testify in her husband's upcoming murder trial.
Family members have told local media that they believe Samaroo was mistakenly killed and that her sister was the target.
Balrup did not enter a plea after being charged on Wednesday. He is expected to appear again in court in late April.
