Danish police arrest dozens in drug raids

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Danish police say they have arrested about 100 people in several drug raids in the capital, Copenhagen, seizing hundreds of kilograms of hashish and up to 14 million kroner ($2.6 million) in cash.

Chief Supt. Joergen Skov says officers have been investigating the case for two years and that five Hells Angels members were among those arrested. Police believe biker gangs had a leading role in the trafficking.

All detainees face custody hearings under heavy police protection and preliminary charges vary according to their alleged roles.

Police said Thursday's raids took place in greater Copenhagen, including the capital's hippie enclave Christiania, where people smoke pot openly, and in southeastern Denmark. Police held similar raids elsewhere in Copenhagen during the past few weeks.
