Ex-DPP legislator dies at 78

Taipei, Jan. 11 (CNA) Former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Chai Trong-rong has died following a stroke at the age of 78, Formosa Television (FTV) reported Saturday. Chai was rushed to hospital Dec. 18 after he was found unconscious at his home, and remained in a coma despite an emergency surgery. His family agreed to have his life support removed Saturday morning, FTV said. Known as a hard-line pro-independence activist, Chai served six terms in the Legislature and is the founder of FTV.
