SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued 10 migrants and is searching for two others reported missing near a tiny island just west of Puerto Rico.
Spokesman Ricardo Castrodad says authorities are still trying to determine the nationality of the migrants.
He said the migrants jumped into the water early Wednesday when the Coast Guard detected a boat approaching Mona Island. He said all the rescued migrants were wearing lifejackets, although it is unclear if the two missing migrants were as well.
It is uncommon for migrants to be wearing lifejackets.
Castrodad said the boat fled with three other people aboard.
