Excess pesticide residue found in imported strawberries

Taipei, Jan. 8 (CNA) Excessive levels of pesticide residue have been found in nearly 600 kilograms of strawberries from Japan and South Korea, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Wednesday. According to the FDA, most of the strawberries whose pesticide residues exceed Taiwan's standards are from Japan, at 397.85 kilograms, while the remaining 200 kg come from South Korea. The strawberries in question will be returned or destroyed, the FDA said, and random checks will be intensified on other strawberry imports. The imports were found to contain high doses of flonicamid, flufenoxuron and endosulfan, as well as the banned chemical cyflumetofen. (By Lung Jui-yun and Lilian Wu)
