GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) -- Schalke says it will sign Germany international Sidney Sam from Bundesliga rival Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.
Schalke says the 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who usually plays on the wing, has agreed to a four-year deal, effective July 1.
Sam has seven goals and five assists for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season. In all, he has scored 23 goals in 83 league games since switching from Hamburger SV in 2010.
He made his debut for Germany in friendly against Ecuador in May, going on to make five appearances for the national side.
Bild reports that Sam had a buy-out clause of 2.5 million euros ($3.4 million), effective after the World Cup.
