Jade and Fuji mountains to forge friendly ties

Tokyo, Jan. 7 (CNA) Friendly ties will be established early next month between Jade and Fuji mountains, the highest peaks in Taiwan and Japan, respectively, according to Japanese government broadcaster NHK on Tuesday. It said the Chinese Taipei Alpine Association will travel to Japan on Feb. 7 to sign the friendly agreement with Japan Mt. Fuji Association, which will arrange visits to Fuji Mountain and related activities. The agreement is expected to help promote personnel exchanges and publicize the nature and culture of the two mountains. Through the friendly pact, the Japanese association also hopes to strengthen relations between the two mountains and learn how to manage the number of climbers on Fuji peak, NHK said. Jade Mountain in central Taiwan rises to 3,952 meters, while Fuji is 3,776 meters and sits between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Fuji Mountain was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites last year. (By Yang Ming-chu and Lilian Wu)
