Taiwan prepares to welcome 8 millionth visitor for 2013

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Taiwan's major airports and seaports are gearing for the 8 millionth foreign visitor to the country this year, a goal that is likely to be reached on Dec. 31, the Tourism Bureau said Monday. The number of foreign visitors to Taiwan as of Dec. 29 was 7.96 million, according to the bureau's statistics. The 8 million mark could be reached by year-end, as an average 25,000 foreign travelers per day have been arriving in Taiwan, the bureau said. If the goal is attained, it will be an all-time record high for Taiwan. The Christmas holiday season brought a wave of foreign visitors to Taiwan last week, the bureau said, estimating that another wave will arrive over the next two days for the New Year celebrations. Taiwan recorded 7.3 million foreign visitors in 2012 and had projected 7.7 million for 2013, a target that was attained on Dec. 21. (By Christie Chen)
