SYDNEY (AP) -- Bruce Djite scored in the 26th minute to help Adelaide United to a 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets on Sunday, just hours after Melbourne Heart revealed it had fired head coach John Aloisi after a winless start to the A-League season.
Brisbane Roar extended its lead to four points atop the standings -- and recorded its 100th win in the competition -- with a thumping 5-2 defeat of Alessandro del Piero's Sydney FC at the start of the 12th round, while second-place Western Sydney Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw with third-place Melbourne Victory on Saturday.
Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Finkler's curling free kick four minutes into injury time salvaged a draw at home for the Melbourne club after Brendon Santalab's second goal of the season had put the Wanderers in the lead.
Wellington recorded consecutive wins for the first time in 18 months, with Stein Huysegems scoring in the 75th minute to hand Melbourne Heart a 1-0 defeat on Friday night that ultimately cost Aloisi his job.
Heart is winless over 17 games dating back to last season, and the Melbourne club finally lost patience with the ex-Socceroos forward halfway through his three-year contract.
Heart chairman Peter Sidwell on Sunday said Aloisi made a significant contribution to the club but, "Ultimately, success on the park is the major measure of a club and its success and very clearly we're not having that at the moment."
Heart is in last place with four points, 23 adrift of Brisbane and 12 out of playoff contention.
Central Coast and Perth were due to finish off the round on New Year's Eve.
