MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Australia stormed closer to a fourth consecutive Ashes victory as Chris Rogers smashed his second half century of the match to leave Australia on 143-1 at lunch needing 88 to beat England on the fourth day of the fourth test.

After resuming on the overnight score of 30-1, David Warner was caught behind off Ben Stokes (1-35) for 25 in another disappointing effort, leaving opening partner Rogers to confidently make an unbeaten 81 with nine fours to take control of the England bowling and steadily reel in Australia's victory target of 231.

Rogers and Shane Watson share an unbeaten second-wicket partnership of 79 at the break.

Watson, who sustained a groin injury while bowling on the first day and often looked uncomfortable batting, battled to 36.
