Luxgen sales expected to double next year

Taipei, Dec. 24 (CNA) Sale of Luxgen cars are expected to double this year to 15,000 units in 2014, a high-ranking executive at Yulon Motor Co., which created the first Taiwanese auto brand in 2008, said Tuesday. The sales will likely be prompted by a planned increase in the supply of Luxgen's latest models and anticipated growth in sales of new-model Nissans and Mitsubishis, Yulon Motor Vice Chairman Chen Kou-rong said at a ceremony to celebrate the launch of the Luxgen S5 Turbo. Confidence in the local brand comes apparently from consumers' support. Nearly five out of 10 people who visited Luxgen outlets came to the decision to buy one of the cars, a percentage higher than the average 20 percent at other car dealers, according to Chen. Chen revealed that the company is planning to launch one new Luxgen model every one to 1.5 years in the future, while continuing to release remodeled ones. The brand is expected to have a complete product line by 2018, he noted. He also disclosed that the company has approved a plan to inject additional funds to the tune of NT$1.44 billion (US$48 million) into Luxgen for research and development.
