Taiwan European film festival to open this week

Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) The ninth annual Taiwan European Film Festival will open Nov. 8, offering free viewing of 16 European films around Taiwan over a one-month period. The festival will be hosted by the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) Nov. 8-Dec.8, with the aim of introducing the Taiwanese public to the European Union's diverse cultures, arts and languages, the EETO said on the event's website. It is also aimed at bringing European movies to not just big cities, but also rural and remote areas of Taiwan, according to the website. The 16 European films were recommended by 16 different members of the EU, the organizers said, noting that it was the highest number of films selected since the festival was launched in Taiwan in 2005. The films will be shown free of cost in 477 sessions at 36 venues in 14 counties and cities around Taiwan, according to the organizers. Last year, there were 250 film sessions at 25 venues in 12 counties and cities. More information about the film entries and screening schedule is available at www.teff.tw (By Jeffrey Wu)
