BEIJING (AP) -- An official says that a wall at a school in southwest China has collapsed, hitting six children and killing two of them.
The incident happened around lunchtime Wednesday at a primary school in Zhenxiong county in Yunnan province.
County government propaganda official Song Yufeng said Thursday that the collapsed wall wasn't part of the school building. He said too much coal had been piled up on one side of the free-standing brick wall, pushing the wall over.
Song said the six children were around 12 years old. He said investigations were continuing.
The safety of school buildings in China has been called into question in the past. Shoddy construction was blamed for the collapse of many schools during a 2008 earthquake that killed thousands.
