VALENCIA, Spain (AP) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer eased into the second round of the Valencia Open by beating Gael Monfils of France 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday.

Fourth-seeded John Isner of the United States beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2).
