RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- The Rio de Janeiro's prosecutor's office says it has charged 15 more police officers in the killing and disappearance of a slum dweller.
That brings to 25 the number of officers charged with torturing and killing bricklayer Amarildo de Souza in the Rocinha slum.
Prosecutor Carmen Elisa Bastos de Carvahlo told reporters about the new charges filed Tuesday.
Souza was last seen in police custody in the slum. The officers say they let him go shortly after taking him in for questioning about suspected gang activities.
Investigators believe the officers later discarded Souza's remains, which have not been found.
The case sparked outrage in Brazil, with protesters taking to the streets demanding that police be held accountable in Souza's disappearance.
