New Songshan MRT line scheduled to open at end of 2014

Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) The Songshan Line on Taipei City's mass rapid transit (MRT) system is expected to begin commercial runs at the end of 2014, the city's Department of Rapid Transit Systems said Tuesday. "The construction is going well," said the department's head Tsay Huel-sheng in response to city councilors' questions on the progress of the new 8.5 km MRT line that will run between Ximen and Songshan. It will be an extension of the green Xindian Line and will include stations at Beimen, Zhongshan, Songjiang Nanjing, Nanjing East Road, Taipei Arena and Nanjing Sanmin. Tsay said test runs began earlier this year but the entire testing process will take about 17 months, therefore, commercial runs will not be possible until the end of next year. The extension line will run mainly under Nanjing East Road, with three transfer stations -- at Zhongshan Station to connect to the Tamsui Line, at Songjiang Nanjing Station for connection to the Zhonghe/Xinlu line, and at Nanjing East Road Station to link with the Wenhu Line.
