No Taiwanese affected in Egypt bloodshed: officials

Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) No casualties of Taiwanese nationals have been reported amid a violent crackdown on opponents of Egypt's military-backed government, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday. Lai Ping-jung, director of the Tourism Bureau's Hotel, Travel and Training Division, echoed the Foreign Ministry statement. Egypt has remained on Taiwan's red travel alert watch list since June as the North African country is gripped by a new round of political turmoil. Under the four-color coded travel advisory system, the red alert is the highest level of warning. Foreign wire services reported that as of Thursday morning Cairo time, over 400 people had been killed and more than 2,000 injured in the clashes. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
