DPP chairman arrives in Thailand for 4-day visit

Bangkok, Aug. 15 (CNA) Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Su Tseng-chang arrived in Bangkok Thursday to meet with Taiwanese businessmen working in Thailand. Su was welcomed at the airport by the Taiwan government's representative to Thailand Henry Chen and members of the Taiwanese business community in the country.
The DPP chairman is making the trip to show support for Taiwanese businessmen working in the Southeast Asian country and to consult them on the party's economic and trade policies, especially those concerning the region, according to a statement released by the DPP. Su's first stop was at the Thai-Taiwan Business Association, where he met with Taiwanese businessmen from across Thailand, the DPP said. Thailand is home to around 150,000 Taiwanese businessmen -- the largest number in any East or South Asian country, excluding China, according to Chen. The DPP chairman is heading a delegation of over 20 people, including party lawmakers Hsiao Bi-khim, Chiu Yi-ying, Gao Jyh-peng, Pan Men-an, Wu Ping-jui, and Tsai Chi-chang, as well as several party officials. The delegation is scheduled to return to Taiwan Aug. 18, the DPP said.
