MIAMI (AP) -- A tropical depression has formed over the far-east Atlantic Ocean, and forecasters have issued a tropical storm warning for the southern Cape Verde Islands.
The National Hurricane Center said late Wednesday that the unnamed storm is located 80 miles (129 kilometers) southeast of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands. It had top winds of 35 mph (56 kph) and was moving west-northwest at 14 mph (22 kph).
The government of the Cape Verde Islands has issued a tropical storm warning for the southern Cape Verde Islands of Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava.
The storm is expected to become a tropical storm on Thursday. Its center is expected to move to the south and southwest of the southern Cape Verde Islands on Thursday, bringing 2 to 4 inches of rain.
