IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa Public Safety Commissioner K. Brian London is seeking to clarify remarks in which he told employees that Filipinos were difficult to polygraph.
Department spokesman Lt. Rob Hansen says London made the statement earlier this year during a meeting in Des Moines.
He says the comment was based on his experience as a polygraph examiner in the U.S. Secret Service, and that he brought it up as an example of how cultural and legal barriers can make examinations difficult. He says he didn't mean to disparage any nationality.
Hansen says London briefed the governor's office about the remarks Tuesday. He says London met Wednesday with polygraph examiners to inform them that his remarks "were potentially taken out of context" and that they were meant to be a technical discussion.
