Severely injured Taiwanese in Norway bus crash stable

Taipei, Aug. 13 (CNA) Two Taiwanese tourists who suffered severe injuries after the bus carrying their 23-member tour group crashed in Norway Monday are now in stable condition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late Tuesday. Twenty-six-year-old Lin Wen-ling died in the crash, in which the vehicle carrying the tour group collided with a local bus while traveling in the Sogndal area of western Norway. A Norwegian woman was also killed. The two members of the group who suffered serious head injuries were taken to a hospital in Bergen, where their vital signs were described as stable, the ministry said. An official with Taiwan's representative office in Norway has arrived in Bergen to help take care of them, said Zhang Ming-zhong, director-general of the ministry's Department of European Affairs. The Tourism Bureau said five other members of the tour group suffered minor injuries, while the Foreign Ministry put the number at seven. The ministry said they were being treated at hospitals in Sogndal and Forde. "Other members of the tour group have been taken to a hotel near Sogndal to rest" and have decided to cancel the rest of their trip, Zhang told CNA. The ministry is helping to arrange for the dead woman's family to travel to Norway, Zhang said, adding that the family will be able to depart for Norway by the following evening. He added that the ministry will also help to make travel arrangements for the families of the injured. (By Elaine Hou)
