Kerry works to shore up relations with Brazil

BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Secretary of State John Kerry will seek to allay the concerns of Brazil's top leaders about U.S. surveillance in their country while highlighting the expanding relationship the U.S. has with the economic powerhouse in Latin America.

Kerry arrived in Brasilia early Tuesday after a one-day visit to Colombia.

Kerry will have talks with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and other officials on education, energy and trade between the two countries, which has reached $75 billion annually.

The Brazilians, however, are upset about reports that showed Brazil is the top target in Latin America for the National Security Agency's effort to monitor communications around the world and are demanding explanations from the U.S.
