TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) -- Tunisia's interior minister says security forces have uncovered plots by "religious extremists" in a series of operations around the country in which one suspected terrorist was killed and 13 were arrested.
Lotfi Ben Jeddou said late Sunday that a plot to kill political figures and attack banks and police stations was uncovered in the tourist town of Sousse. He said an insurgent was killed and four wounded in a shootout at a house in Ouardia, outside Tunis. A vehicle loaded with arms was stopped in Ben Guerdane, near Libya's border.
A military operation against insurgents is under way in Mount Chaambi, near Algeria, and officials say two soldiers were killed there by an anti-tank mine on Sunday.
On Monday Prime Minister Ali Larayedh urged the nation's extremists to surrender.
