Trade delegation expects over US$30 million orders from Hungary

Taipei, May 24 (CNA) A trade promotion delegation in Hungary is expected to generate more than US$30 million (NT$897 million) in orders for Taiwan-made auto and motorbike components, Taiwan's representative office in the East European country said Friday. The trade delegation organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) held a conference in Budapest Thursday, attracting about 60 potential Hungarian buyers. The potential buyers then held a total of 250 one-on-one meetings with representatives from the delegation's 16 Taiwanese auto and motorbike part suppliers, the office said. The 250 meetings could eventually generate more than US$30 million in orders, according to a rough estimate by the office, an indication, the office said, that the promotional efforts in Hungary had paid off. The 16 Taiwanese suppliers included brake system supplier Shou Ie Enterprise Co., scooter parts maker Chin Hao Top Enterprise Co., headlamp leveling device supplier Fortop Industrial Co., and truck and passenger car brake lining vendor Delightful Enterprises Inc., according to the TAITRA. Because most of the Taiwanese companies were visiting Hungary for the first time, the head of the Taiwan investor association in Hungary, Liu Shin-yu, came and exchanged information with them about the Hungarian market, the office said. The Taiwanese vendors said they were impressed with Hungary's purchasing power. According to Taiwan customs bureau statistics, bilateral trade between Taiwan and Hungary rose 59.6 percent in 2012 from a year earlier. Taiwan's exports to Hungary rose 80.3 percent year-on-year to US$744 million while its imports from Hungary fell 8.1 percent to US$416 million. Before visiting Hungary, the delegation promoted Taiwan-made auto and motorbike parts in Turkey on May 22, the TAITRA said, and it will stop in Romania and Russia next before returning to Taiwan on June 2.
