EU in Kosovo arrests 5 war crime suspects

The European Union law mission in Kosovo says five ethnic Albanian men have been arrested for alleged war crimes against civilians during the 1998-99 war.
The five former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army were investigated for running a detention center in central Kosovo where civilians were beaten and tortured. One of those arrested is suspected of killing a civilian, the European Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) said Thursday.
EULEX did not name the individuals, but local media identified the suspects as Sami Lushtaku, now mayor of Skenderaj, and four of his wartime associates.
Lushtaku was a senior commander in the now disbanded KLA. He is an influential figure in the ruling party of Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.
Kosovo seceded from Serbia in 2008 but Belgrade rejects the move.
