Romanian club Rapid banned from 1 UEFA competition

UEFA has banned Rapid Bucharest from one European club competition after it missed a deadline to pay debts.
UEFA says the Romanian club is excluded from the next Champions League or Europa League it qualifies for within three seasons. Rapid is currently ninth in its national league.
Rapid must pay a (EURO)100,000 ($130,000) fine which UEFA threatened in December if the club failed to settle tax, wages and transfer debts by March 31.
In other cases, UEFA's club financial control body lifted threats of one-year bans against Dinamo Bucharest, Partizan Belgrade and Croatia's Hajduk Split and Osijek after debts were paid.
In the most high-profile case this season, UEFA banned Champions League quarterfinalist Malaga from its competitions for one season over unpaid debts.
Malaga will appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on June 4.
