New chairman ready to solve Fiji rugby's ills

Fiji's military leader Commodore Frank Bainimarama has directed the new chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union with cleaning up the union's affairs and solving its longstanding financial problems.
Filimoni Waqabaca, who was elected chairman on Sunday, was the personal nominee to the board of Bainimarama, Fiji's Prime Minister since 2006 when he seized power in a military coup. Waqabaca is Fiji's permanent secretary for finance and previously worked for the Reserve Bank of Fiji and the International Monetary Fund in New York.
He said changes to the way rugby is run in Fiji are long overdue and after initially rejecting Bainimarama's nomination in 2011 , he said he was now "up to the challenge" of tackling the union's entrenched problems.
