HTC eyes top smartphone brand in Taiwan in Q2

Taipei, May 18 (CNA) Taiwan's HTC Corp. could regain its No. 1 place in terms of market share in Taiwan in the second quarter of this year, thanks to the hot sales of its Butterfly phone and the new HTC One, institutional investors said Saturday. Institutional investors forecast that the new HTC One will post strong sales in May and may even exceed the Butterfly's single-month record of 78,000 units. Total sales of the HTC Butterfly and the new HTC One in May could reach as many as 150,000 units and could help the company regain its place as Taiwan's top smartphone brand, the institutional investors said. Also on Saturday, Jack Tong, president of HTC North Asia, said sales of the new HTC One continue to improve and have not been affected by the launch of flagship models by other smartphone brands. He added that through the company's latest cooperation with Cirque de Soleil, HTC hopes to inspire greater creativity within the company. He was speaking at a promotional event for the Canadian group's upcoming performances. HTC announced on May 16 its official partnership with Cirque de Soleil for the group's shows in June that will recreate the iconic moments of the late pop singer Michael Jackson.
