Animal Rescue Team seeking help to send dog to Canada

Taipei, April 29 (CNA) Animal Rescue Team Taiwan said Monday it needs help to deliver a stray dog to its new home in Vancouver, Canada. The young dog Fico was rescued by the team from Taiwan Power Co.'s Taichung Thermal Power Plant in central Taiwan late last year. At the time, the dog was seriously ill from a skin infection, the team said, adding that Fico has recovered after more than four months of treatment and attentive care. The dog has not only regained its health but has also gained weight, growing from 0.5 kilograms to 7.8 kg, the team said. Through the team's efforts, a dog lover in Vancouver has agreed to adopt Fico.
As it is now an off-season for air travel, the team said, it has had a hard time finding a passenger to take the dog to its new Canadian home. The team posted an emergency notice on its Facebook page Monday seeking a kindhearted "dog ambassador" to help take Fico to Vancouver on a direct flight. The team said it will pay the air cargo cost of slightly over NT$10,000 (US$338.49) and provide all the necessary documents, including quarantine papers. "We will make it easy for the would-be ambassador to help take Fico to Canada as checked luggage," the team said in its Facebook post.
