Tasmania goes slow on 1st day of Australian final

Opener Jordan Silk was 82 not out with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting unbeaten on 20 as Tasmania took a conservative approach to batting after winning the toss Friday on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield first-class final against Queensland.
Tasmania's run rate was about 1.5 runs per over for most of the day at Bellerive Oval in reaching 176-2 at stumps. The Tasmanians, who finished first in the regular season, need only to draw the five-day match to win their third national title and first with Ponting, who has retired from test play, in the lineup.
Queensland is defending its 2012 title and looking for its eighth overall.
