Chinese official to Taipei: Let me visit

China's top official for Taiwan affairs says the island should lift its "unnecessary" restrictions and allow him to visit.
Zhang Zhijun told a conference in Fujian Province on Friday that Taiwan's longstanding refusal to host the head of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office should come to an end.
Zhang took up his post this week.
On Tuesday, Zhang's Taiwanese counterpart Wang Yu-chi appeared to nix the idea of an early Zhang visit.
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949. While bilateral trade exchanges have flourished in recent years, Taipei has resisted Chinese calls for political dialogue, fearing it could pave the way from Chinese control over the island.
Such control has been the ultimate aim of Beijing's Taiwan policy since the 1949 split.
