Daniel Martin wins 4th stage of Volta, takes lead

Daniel Martin of Ireland raced ahead of the pack to win the fourth stage and take the overall lead in the Volta a Catalunya on Thursday.
The 26-year-old Garmin rider crossed the line in six hours, two minutes, 40 seconds, finishing four seconds ahead of Joaquim Rodriguez of Spain and Colombia's Nairo Quintana.
Overnight leader Alejandro Valverde crashed halfway through the stage and had to abandon the race.
Bradley Wiggins of Britain finished sixth, one minute, two seconds behind Martin.
Martin, the only rider to stay ahead following a 25-man breakaway after one hour, leads Rodriguez by 10 seconds in the overall standings. Quintana is third, 32 seconds off the pace, with Wiggins a further four seconds behind.
Friday is a 156.5-kilometer (97-mile) ride from Rialp to Lleida.
