Austrian ski coach Kriechbaum to lead women's team

Jurgen Kriechbaum has been appointed head coach of Austria's women's Alpine skiing team, taking over from Herbert Mandl.
The federation says Kriechbaum, who has been working as a coach with Ski Austria for two decades, signed a contract until the end of the 2014-15 season.
Kriechbaum led the women's speed team when Elisabeth Goergl won the downhill and super-G titles and Anna Fenninger took the super-combined gold during the 2011 world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. From 2003-09, Kriechbaum worked as a men's coach.
Under Mandl, who stepped down after 11 years, Austrian women have won 12 gold medals during major championships, including three at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics.
Mandl, who also coached the Norwegian women's team for five years in the 1990s, will become director of the Ski Austria Academy in St. Christoph am Arlberg.
