Host of Trinidad TV show fined for showing video

A judge in Trinidad has imposed a fine on the host of a popular TV crime show for airing a video that revealed the identity of a teenage rape victim.
Ian Alleyne was ordered to pay nearly $4,700. Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Ceasar rejected a defense plea to spare him any punishment. She said he did not deserve jail time because he had no malicious intent.
Alleyne aired the video that showed the assault as part of his weekly "Crime Watch" program on CCN TV6. The video showed the face of the 13-year-old victim in violation of a section of sexual offenses act in Trinidad and Tobago. The host said the program resulted in an arrest in the case.
Alleyne said he accepted Tuesday's decision and would pay the fine.
