Cartwright hired to coach Japan's Osaka Evessa

Former NBA player and coach Bill Cartwright was hired Tuesday as coach of the Osaka Evessa in Japan's professional basketball league.
Cartwright, who was coach of the Chicago Bulls from 2001-03, will guide Osaka for the remainder of the 2013 season.
Osaka is in ninth place in the 10-team Western Conference with a 5-19 record with half a season remaining.
Cartwright becomes the second former NBA coach to be hired by a team in the league following Bob Hill, who coached the Tokyo Apache in 2010-11.
Cartwright played for the Bulls, New York Knicks and Seattle SuperSonics over 15 seasons in the NBA. He has a career 51-100 record in three seasons as coach of the Bulls.
"Bill Cartwright's career as both a player and coach is very impressive to say the least," former NBA player and current Yokohama coach Reggie Geary said. "The addition of his experience and name to our league can only be seen as a positive."
Cartwright's most recent coaching position was as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns from 2008-12.
