3M opens R&D center in Taiwan

Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) Global innovative product maker 3M opened a research and development center in northern Taiwan on Tuesday, touting it as its first green R&D facility in the Asia-Pacific region. The four-story R&D center in Yangmei City, Taoyuan was designed on concepts of environmental protection and green energy, according to 3M Taiwan, a subsidiary of the U.S.-based enterprise. For example, the company said, more than 30 3M-related products were used in the construction of the center to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. It is 3M's first green R&D center in Asia, the company said.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Chih-yang praised 3M's long-standing efforts to promote green energy and environmental protection. He said the American company is Taoyuan's best industrial partner. At the opening, over 100 3M products were on display at the center.
They included N95 facial masks, paper for testing the quality of cooking oil in the fast food sector, light-reflecting materials for the production of traffic signs, and high decibel noise-blocking earmuffs.
