Cape Verde held firm in a resilient debut at the African Cup of Nations on Saturday, only Africa's top tournament was left waiting for its first goal after the opening day and gave home fans at a rainy Soccer City little to cheer.
The team from the tiny island nation drew 0-0 with host South Africa in the tournament opener to dampen the home country's hopes of a dream ride to the title, like Bafana Bafana did the last time they hosted.
Morocco and Angola also finished goalless in the second of back-to-back matches at the former World Cup venue, although their encounter had more chances and more open football.
Cape Verde defended resolutely for its first point in the championship and coach Lucio Antunes then denied that it was an uninspiring start.
