Japan's Giants sign former MLB infielder Lopez

The Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League have signed former Chicago White Sox utility infielder Jose Lopez.
The 29-year-old Lopez has a career .262 batting average with 92 home runs and 480 RBIs across nine major league seasons with the Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies, Florida Marlins, Cleveland Indians and Chicago. While at the Mariners in 2006, he was selected to the American League All-Star team and was a member of Venezuela's team at the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
According to Nikkan Sports, the two clubs agreed to a one-year deal worth $911,000.
Lopez played in only 15 games last season for Chicago, spending most of the season with the Triple A Charlotte Knights of the International League.
The Giants, Japan's most popular team, won the 2012 Japan Series.
