France: Citizen in Venezuela faced arms charge

France's foreign ministry says a citizen expelled from Venezuela over the weekend had been held for more than three years for arms trafficking.
The statement Monday did not address Venezuelan allegations that the man was an intelligence agent jailed for alleged involvement in a plot to kill President Hugo Chavez.
The foreign ministry said Frederic Bocquet held French and Swiss citizenship and was freed on Dec. 29. Officials did not say where Bocquet headed afterward.
The Venezuelan president is in Cuba, where he underwent cancer surgery and, according to his vice president, is suffering from "new complications."
