USVI celebrates bill signed by President Obama

President Barack Obama has signed a bill stating that rulings issued by the U.S. Virgin Islands Supreme Court can be reviewed directly by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The amended law means that a U.S. Court of Appeals no longer has to first review decisions issued by the highest court in the Virgin Islands.
Congresswoman Donna Christensen said Saturday that the bill she sponsored is another step toward self-governance for the U.S. territory.
The Virgin Islands Supreme Court has issued more than 180 opinions since 2007, including a landmark ruling in May that stated women are not property.
