Troubled Virgin Islands prison placed on lockdown

A troubled prison in the U.S. Virgin Islands has been placed on lockdown.
The acting director of the U.S. territory's Corrections Bureau says the lockdown is in response to what he calls an inappropriate appearance of inmates on an unidentified social media outlet.
Director Basil Richards says in a statement Friday that the lockdown at Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility in St. Croix will remain in place until further notice.
Spokeswoman Juel Anderson says no further details will be released.
Federal authorities last year requested receivership of the prison, citing dangerous and deplorable conditions. The territorial government has said it has been making improvements.
