Puerto Rico hospital, ambulance company fined

A Puerto Rico trauma center and ambulance company have been charged with crass negligence and fined following the death of a 10-year-old boy.
The island's health solicitor Dr. Carlos Mellado says an investigation found that the actions of employees at Centro Medico and Medic Ambulance caused the boy's health to deteriorate. But Mellado says there's no evidence their actions caused the boy's death.
Jeffrey Santiago was transferred in October from a hospital in Arecibo to the San Juan trauma center after falling from a bed and hitting his head.
Mellado said Centro Medico repeatedly ignored more than 22 calls from the other hospital seeking to transfer the boy. He also said Medic Ambulance transported the boy without proper pediatric medication.
The center was fined $10,000 and the company $1,000.
