Son of KMT honorable chairman named by Singapore paper as rising star

Singapore, Dec. 28 (CNA) Sean Lien, the son of Taiwan's ruling party Kuomintang's Honorable Chairman Lien Chan, was named by the Straits Times newspaper as one of the 16 rising political stars in the world. In a special article titled Faces and Places to Watch, the paper said the outspoken offspring from one of Taiwan's political heavyweight families has become one of the favorite candidates for the mayoral post in Taipei City in the 2014 election after he survived a shooting incident in 2010.
In that accident, Lien was shot in the face while rallying for a KMT candidate in local elections.
The list also include Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the 24-year-old son of Pakistan's late Premier Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007, and Paul Ryan, the Republican Party nominee for the United State vice president in the 2012 election.
In Taipei, Sean Lien was quoted by his aide Hsu Hung-tien as saying he was flattered by the honor which will encourage him to continue his efforts to develop his career.
Lien is the only one in Taiwan named on the list. (By Lee Shu-hua and Maubo Chang)
