Taiwan's first own-designed satellite computer unveiled

Taipei, Nov. 27 (CNA) Taiwan's National Applied Research Laboratories unveiled on Tuesday the country's first own-designed satellite computer as part of efforts to expand the country's space technology research capabilities. The FORMOSAT-5 flight computer is scheduled to be launched into space in the third quarter of 2015 after two more years of development, the laboratories said. The updated computer will make it possible to take more accurate satellite images and offer more precise information to help with natural disaster prevention and assessment, the laboratories said. "With the development of this computer, we expect to offer our space technology to other countries in the future and help them build satellites," Chen Liang-gee, president of the state-run laboratories, said at a news conference.
