Zimbabwe's president wants hasty end to coalition

Zimbabwe's president says lawmakers must move "frantically and with haste" to finalize a new constitution so elections can be held to end a shaky coalition with the nation's former opposition party.
President Robert Mugabe, opening the last schedule of sittings of the Parliament in Harare before its five-year term expires next year, said he wants legislative business wound up so that fresh elections he proposed for March can bring closure to the coalition formed after disputed and violent polls in 2008.
He said rewriting the constitution was a difficult process and had taken three and half years instead of the 18 months originally planned for.
Mugabe said that if outstanding disputes between the parties were not resolved, the coalition's leaders "will take appropriate steps" to break any deadlock. He did not elaborate.
