Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

Tropical Storm Son-tinh is expected to keep strengthening on Sunday as it continues moving over the South China Sea. The system could strengthen to a Category 2 typhoon and will reach southeastern China and northeastern Vietnam on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to most of the region throughout the day. Hong Kong will be rainy with cloudy skies and highs in the upper 20s Celsius, while Hanoi will see heavy rain, strong winds and severe thunderstorms with highs near 27 C.
A trough of low pressure will continue to move eastward from northeastern China, extending through the Korean Peninsula and into the Sea of Japan. This system will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Korean Peninsula, over the Yellow Sea and toward Japan. Behind this system, high pressure will bring sunny conditions across much of China. Shanghai will be sunny with highs in the low 20s C, while Beijing will be sunny with highs in the upper teens C. Tokyo will be rainy with highs in the upper teens C.
In Australia, high pressure building northward from the Great Australian Bight will bring dry conditions across most of the country. Sydney will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper teens C.
