Taiwan garment, textile firms participate in China fair

Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) A Taiwanese delegation is in China to attend an international garment and textile exhibition, according to the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) on Saturday.
Taiwan's presence at the China (Dalian) International Garment & Textile Fair, which runs Sept. 8-11 in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian, is expected to demonstrate the country's strength in the global textile market, said the TTF, which heads the delegation. The Taiwan delegation, which is composed of representatives from 12 design brands, is operating a special pavilion under the banner "Taipei in Style." The dozen brands include JoanneKitten, Merma, Talent Yarn, Anymore, What-Z, Chrystal Anne, YuLin, Dleet, and Glenn Michibata.
The federation said the Dalian fair is the first international garment and textile exhibition in China to have been authorized by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The annual event has been held 24 times so far. The Dalian fair is the only national-level garment and textile exhibition in China to be sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce and the China National Textile and Apparel Council, the TTF said. The TTF said more than 100 international brands participate in the Chinese fair every year, so it is a good opportunity for Taiwanese exhibitors to show foreign counterparts their design capability. In addition, the federation views Dalian as a springboard to enter the fast growing northeastern part of China. At this year's event, there are fashion shows for international brands to show off their designs, matchmaking meetings for foreign and Chinese traders and an international purchasing forum for professional buyers.
Before the international exhibition kicked off, the TTF held a series of one-on-one procurement talks between Taiwanese representatives and potential Chinese buyers Thursday in a bid to polish the image of Taiwan brands and speed up the pace in entering the China market.
