Cars, homes damaged in Athens cash machine blast

Greek police say suspected robbers have blown up a bank cash machine in a suburban Athens square, damaging parked cars and smashing windows in nearby shops and flats.
Police said nobody was injured in the pre-dawn attack Tuesday. The bombers used a makeshift device composed of a large cooking gas canister wired to some form of electric detonator.
The blast destroyed the ATM in the northwestern Athens suburb of Ilion.
Police said the motive of the attack appeared to have been to steal the money in the machine. They said the blast was not being immediately linked with domestic militant anarchist groups, who frequently set off homemade bombs outside banks and other symbols of wealth and authority.
