Australia elects to bats versus Afghanistan in ODI

Australia captain Michael Clarke won the toss Saturday and chose to bat first in the one-day international against Afghanistan.
Allrounder Glenn Maxwell will make his debut for Australia. However, Alister McDermott, the son of former Australia fast bowler Craig McDermott, was left out of the team.
Afghanistan, which is playing only its second ODI against a test-playing nation, included two of its most promising young players, in under-19 captain Javid Ahmadi and left-handed batsman Najeebullah Zadran. Both were at the under-19 World Cup in which Afghanistan finished 10th. Batsman Noor Ali has been left out due to a right shoulder injury, while fast bowler Hamid Hasan is rested as he recovers from a knee injury.
