Taiwan to showcase latest innovative products at Eurobike 2012

Taipei, Aug. 25 (CNA) Taiwanese bicycle manufacturers will display their latest innovative products at the upcoming Eurobike 2012, the world's biggest bicycle trade show, in Friedrichshafen, Germany, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said Saturday. A total of 232 Taiwanese exhibitors among 1,200 participants from 50 countries will exhibit their latest bicycles and related products at this year's event from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, said TAITRA, Taiwan's main trade promotion body. More than 40,000 specialists from the industry are expected to attend the exhibition, TAITRA said in a statement. Taiwan's bicycle industry has developed by leaps and bounds over the past 50 years, transforming the island into the "high-end bicycle kingdom" it is today, said Antony Lo, president of the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters' Association (TBEA). "Innovation will be a key factor to our success in the future, and we have seen a global move toward energy saving and carbon reduction," he said, adding that Taiwan's brands are leading and shaping the global trend. According to customs reports cited by the TBEA, the value of Taiwan's bicycle exports in the first half of 2012 reached US$802 million, with a total of over 2 million bikes exported overseas. The major export markets in 2011 were the European Union (62.8 percent), North America (16.5 percent), and Japan (6.1 percent). Among this year's Taiwanese exhibitors are Giant Manufacturing Co., Tern Bicycles, Ming Cycle Industrial Co., AMC Chain Industrial Co. and Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. (By James Lee)
